28: Order and Imperfection

  1. Character! Both on the last two photos from the chips and the first from your orderly laundry mission.

  2. Character of the objects or the owner?? Both, maybe. My obstinance on both counts: insisting on some level of order amidst the family chaos, and refusal to toss perfectly useful but damaged goods.

  3. This post speaks to me! I concur with Amy and Bethany. I cherish my little worn things.
I was delighted to discover that people actually collect repaired pottery called "make-dos" http://andrewbaseman.com/blog/

  5. What great links! We are loathe to throw anything in the garbage at our house unless absolutely necessary and are known to make multiple repairs. My son has a shirt that says "My dad can fix anything" and it's true! :) (I fix things, too, but my husband usually gets around to it faster.) Also, I have a collection of broken blue-and-white pottery from over the years that I hope to include in this project at some point. And (I could go on and on about this subject...) my most recent mosaic work features pieces of junk/ trash incorporated with the tile. See my profile pic: that's the speaker from a music greeting card, slate and seed beads.
